What

A search bar is a small text box input where a user can type in a search term to generate a list of results

Why

To be able to find information that is either hidden at the time or that the user simply can't find

Where

Typically either at the top of another section, like a grid or panel, in the top right of the screen or in the navbar.

Best Practices

  • Users expect it to be a box shape.
  • Show a “type in field” instead of link to search function when possible.
